I am delighted that the Electronic Literature Organization has recognized my essay “On Artificial and Post-Artificial Texts: Machine Learning and the Reading Expectations of Literary and Non-Literary Writing” with the N. Katherine Hayles Award for Criticism of Electronic Literature this year.
The essay is based on my Walter Höllerer Lecture at the TU Berlin in December 2022. It appeared as a preprint in the Basel Media Culture and Cultural Techniques Working Papers in 2023 and, fundamentally revised, in the journal Poetics Today in 2024. The final version can be read here.
